After years of voluntary service, Deska was taken on as the Meals on Wheels Development
Worker 1997. After a period of rapid expansion in the organisation Deska became
the Day Care and Meals on Wheels Manager before his current position as Divisional
Manager for Older People and Health.
He has completed NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care and level 4 in Management.
Deska has played a key role in the development of other organisations in including
the African Caribbean Health Improvement Service (ACHIS) as a founder member and
later as the chair and he has served as a board member of Sandwell Council For Voluntary
Organisation (SCVO).
Deska stated that he chose to work for the WBACRC because he wanted to help improve
the lives of African Caribbean and Dual Heritage Senior Citizen’s that live and work
in Sandwell. He stated the most vulnerable of our citizens live alone, they have
no family members to turn to when their health condition deteriorates, therefore
in his role he can advocate on their behalf to access secondary and primary care
services that can improve their general health.
Deska attended Willingsworth High School in Tipton and initially joined the organisation
as a volunteer initially working in the Day Care Service.
As part of the Care at Home Initiative, Deska was given the role to establish the
Meals on Wheels Service.
