Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels Service Statement

Since 1995; we have been providing a culturally sensitive, nutritionally balanced African Caribbean Meals on Wheels Service to Adults with either Learning Disabilities, Well being issues or to Older People living in the North East or South East part of the borough.

We have been on the Adult and Community Services Approved Providers List since 1997.

We have a varied selection of dishes on our menu and every dish we cook is suitable for diabetics.

Our service is very versatile; we target individuals who are unable to purchase food items or cook meals independently and safely themselves.  We also deliver meals to community and voluntary or public sector groups who do not have the facilities or staff that can prepare or cook a meal themselves for their service users.

Referral

Meals on Wheels Image 1

We currently operate a three prong referral system.

For referrals associated with Adult & Community Services Block Contract; we only receive referrals from qualified Social Workers or Practitioners that form a part of Integrated/Virtual Team

For individuals that do not meet the above criteria, or if they live outside of the borough; we will set up a spot purchase contract which is either with the individual or organisation.

The final agreement is with individual organisations who wish to place a bulk order… If their service users meet AC&S criteria, they will be charged at the same unit cost as individuals that meet the criteria.. If they do not, or they live outside of the borough; we will set a higher unit cost into the spot purchase contract.

Users

Users need to be:

  • Resident in Sandwell (NE or SE Wards).
  • Have a disability that makes them unable to provide for themselves with a nutritious meal.
  • Be able to feed themselves or have someone who will help them.

Users can:

  • Choose the dishes they wish to get.
  • Choose the method of payment.
  • Choose the day they pay.

Support

If our service users require additional support i.e. Personal Care, Day Care Aids and Adaptations etc. to breakdown isolation, appropriate referrals are made to external agencies redress their unmet needs.

Within four weeks of taking on board our service, a review visit will take place to ensure that clients are happy with our service.
We also carry out yearly evaluations on both our service and the meals we provide and deliver; they enable us to ensure our service is client focused and centred so each person gets their individual dietary requirements met.

Available Documentation

We have a range of booklets that have been designed in a user friendly way for both organisations and for the users so that they understand how the service operates
