Teenage Pregnancy Statement

The teenage pregnancy project works with African Caribbean young people to provide support and practical help to pregnant teenagers and young parents across Sandwell. It is part of the West Bromwich African Caribbean Resource Centre, which is one of the largest voluntary organisations within Sandwell providing essential services both to the African Caribbean community and the general community at large.

Aims

We aim to:

• To provide support and practical help to African Caribbean pregnant teenagers and young parents across Sandwell
  
  
• Enabling young people to access accurate information
  
  
• To enable African Caribbean young people to make informed decisions about their life choices

Access

Provide access to advice and contraception services

• Once a referral has been received, Rachel will arrange to visit the young person. This can be at home or somewhere else if preferred. At this initial meeting methods of support will be discussed. 

This can include:

• One to one support in person or phone contact if preferred.
  
  
• Liaison with other agencies, and advocacy on young people’s behalf if required.
  
  
• Signposting onto other agencies.
  
  
• Group work, enabling young parents and their children to meet others in a similar situation to themselves.
  
  
• Accompanying to meetings such as antenatal or housing appointments.
