Hyacinth came to England from Mandeville, Jamaica in 1956.
She has been the proprietor of Jarretts hairdressers since 1970. She brings over 40 years business experience to the charity and in addition she is also a qualified nurse .She established the black hairdressing courses at Birmingham City College (Handsworth) and established the training board now called Habia. Hyacinth has also contributed to the level 4 Foundation syllabus in hairdressing working with London University. She has been a regular member as part of trade delegation to the Caribbean on several occasions.
Hyacinth has been involved in community work for over 40 years and is a founder member of West Bromwich African Caribbean Resource Centre.
Hyacinth is a winner of several awards including the Birmingham local heroes award Black Country African Caribbean Business Federation award and overseas business award from the Chamber of commerce.
She is married with two children and is a grandmother several times over.
