Our Saturday School, based at the Lyng Primary School,

Horton Street in West Bromwich believe that by working

alongside your child's state school we can help with your

child's development in the following ways:

• We follow National Curriculum guidelines in what we teach

   and assess

• All children will be taught in their Key Stage group
• We will be improving your child's literacy and numeracy skills
• More educational trips and visits will take place
• We will be making more positive links with our community.

Saturday School Aim

• Enable students to develop a positive self-image and self pride.
• Encourage self reliance and self confidence
• Enhance cultural identity
• Develop the students National Curriculum abilities in the core subjects Maths & English
• Develop the students numeracy and literacy skills and spellings
• Enhance and maintain the support network with local schools
• Provide and develop resources relevant for the appropriate Key Stage.
• Ensure that all staff are informed and delivering current educational initiatives
• Encourage and develop parental links and involvement in the Saturday School
• Provide workshops that encourage and inform parents of the many aspects of state education and how they can play an active part.

Fees are £20.00 per term, per child.

We are proud to announce that the Saturday School have managed to achieve the Gold Quality Framework for Supplementary Education awarded by Continyou, the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education. The framework is assessed by peer mentor s from other Saturday Schools and after a ten minute presentation and one and an half hours viewing of the portfolio the decision was to grant us with the Gold Award.

Our assessor Karen Gardiner  worked with us as part of a team effort  in which Saturday school teachers, parents , carers and students all contributed by statements,  being interviewed , class observation and written testimonies.

The Gold Award requires us to show evidence that:

• The supplementary school we have created a well organised environment in which everyone can work comfortably and has clear expectations of behaviour that fosters good relationships and supports learning.
• There is a clear programme of study and lessons are carefully planned.
• Teachers know how children learn and how to engage them creatively
• Teachers assess and record children’s needs progress and performance
• Teachers and learners have a choice of diverse resources which support different learning styles
• The supplementary school has an annual cycle of on-going monitoring, evaluation and planning involving everyone.
• The school works in partnership with one or two other organisations
• There is induction, support and training for staff and volunteers

The Gold Award is the end result of 17 months of continuous quality development and

follows the Saturday School achieving the Bronze Award in July 2010 and the Silver

Award in February 2011.
